In majority of Mumbai’s slums, quality and accessible education remains a pipe dream. For three year old Shahjaan who lives in the Govandi slum community in Mumbai, quality education is a dream-come-true thanks to Sahaara’s balwadi situated near his house.
Shajaan’s father, Nisar Ahmed, is a daily wage worker in bag-making industry and his mother Khairunissa, is a housewife. The family is poor and struggles to make ends meet, and they find it very difficult to cope with medical emergencies. Despite their poor economic condition, Shajaan’s parents realize the value of a good education, and ensure that he goes to Sahaara’s balwadi every day.
Sahaara’s balwadi has a systematic curriculum wherein children are equipped in the following subjects over the period of a year: English and Hindi: alphabets and poems, writing skills, general knowledge (colours, animals, flowers, personal hygiene etc), colouring, games and activities such as counting, recognition etc
Shajaan is a bright child who is good in academics. He loves to play and is very interactive. He responds well to the teacher and enjoys games/play-time with other children like blocks, puzzles etc.
Thanks to your generous donation of three months of education each, Biju (x2), Anil and Jerame, Shajaan will now be able to attend school for an entire year.
Thank you all for coming together in support of Shajaan and motivating him to do well in life!
